As we know, working smoke alarms give people an early alert to fire in their home, and that early alert gives them the best chance of escaping alive. 

To remind New Zealand households, this Daylight Saving we are continuing to keep the message clear – simply “press the button to check”. We also incorporated the message “when you sleep, you lose your sense of smell” to reinforce a reason you need working smoke alarms. 

Daylight Saving media activity will start from 20th September with the majority of activity focused in the weekend, from 25th – 27th September to get New Zealand households to check their smoke alarms are working over this period. The media activity includes:

  • Radio
  • TVNZ Activity (10 second ad in every ad break on Saturday 26th Sept on TV1 and TV2)
  • Social Media
  • Banners on 1 News websites
  • Youtube and Video on Demand (6 second non-skippable pre-roll video ads)

In addition to the above, we are also focusing on key channels that specifically speak to Maori communities, and utilising new creative content co-developed with Pou Takawaenga Maori – Maori Liaison Team, that aims to be more relevant and better engage this audience. This media activity will run from 20th – 27th September and includes:

  • Radio reminders across the Maori media network
  • Targeted Social Media
  • An exciting partnership with Maori TV including live interview with one of our people (Dora Dehar) and a smoke alarm giveaway on Maori TV’s Terei Tonight on 18th September. Please be sure to tune in!
