On Friday 7 March our Central 111 Fire Communications Centre (ComCen) held its Honours and Awards function in Wellington, which happens every two years.

Our ComCen dispatchers take the public’s 111 calls and coordinate the mobilisation of fire crews and resources in emergencies. They work closely with other emergency services to ensure that help reaches those in need as quickly as possible.

The various awards included Long Service Good Conduct medals for 14 years of service, 5-year medals, the Police Operation Dean's Citations for the centre’s involvement in the response to the March 15 Christchurch terror attacks, and even a 40-year certificate.

Special congratulations to Shift Manager Belinda Beets who was presented with her 25-year Gold Star. It was a very special occasion, with Belinda’s husband and her watch there to see her receive her Gold Star.

The awards were presented by ComCen Manager, Master of Ceremonies and ComCen rep, Marcel Roux, Deputy Chief Executive Service Delivery Operations, Ken Cooper, Director Service Delivery Operations, Brendan Nally, UFBA Representative, Mati Soi and Wellington Provincial Gold Star Association President, Steve Monks.

Congratulations to all the recipients, and thank you for your service to Fire and Emergency and the communities of Aotearoa New Zealand.
