Every year on 25 April, we remember the New Zealanders and Australians who have lost their lives at war and honour our returned and serving servicemen and women.

In communities across our two countries it is customary to come together at war memorials at dawn, the time that ANZAC forces started landing on the Gallipoli peninsula on this day in 1915.

There is also a proud tradition among Fire and Emergency of marking the day by both attending public commemorations and holding our own on stations.

Last year, we were able to return to tradition and come together in our communities at local Anzac Day services.

This year, we will be able to commemorate Anzac Day at our stations, if brigades wish to do so, but with the COVID-19 restrictions in place under the orange traffic light setting of the COVID-19 Protection Framework, as follows:

  • My Vaccine Pass must be in use on stations, meaning attendees must be vaccinated.
  • For any face-to-face interaction with public on station, personnel covered by the Health Order must wear surgical masks.

At orange, there are no limits on attendee numbers.

Any personnel attending an Anzac Day event in uniform, or as a representative of Fire and Emergency, must follow the rules of the event around vaccinations and the use of My Vaccine Pass, as well as the standard rules for wearing their uniform to a public event.

Many venues may still be operating My Vaccine Pass even though they are not required to, so personnel should check in advance if it is in use.

We would also encourage our people to take sensible precautions given there will be mixing with other people, including vulnerable people such as elderly veterans.
