This week is Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa - Samoa Language Week (29 May-4 June).

This year's theme is Fa’aāuāu le Folauga i le Va’a o Tautai - Continue the Voyage with Competent Wayfinders of the Ocean.

This week’s celebration also coincides with the 60th anniversary of Samoa Independence.

At Fire and Emergency, we know it is important to be able to communicate with as many of our communities as possible.

To best support communities whose first language is not English, that may have recently moved here, and may not be used to New Zealand-style homes and kitchens, we have created resources in a range of languages, including Samoan.(external link)

This includes the following fire safety video available publicly on our YouTube channel.

The Ministry for Pacific Peoples also has a lot of good resources, including the following language card of good phrases to know.(external link)

You can find out more about the week and events that may be happening in your area here(external link).
