The next Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC) conference will be held in Brisbane between 22 and 25 August 2023.

The theme for the conference is “Creating a sustainable future: the challenges and opportunities”.

The call for abstracts is now open. You can submit an abstract for inclusion as either a poster or presentation at the event. We’re keen to showcase high-quality and innovative thinking from across Fire and Emergency New Zealand.

If you’re planning to submit an abstract, please follow the following process.

In line with our conference and attendance guidelines, please discuss your abstract idea with your manager in the first instance.

AFAC encourages abstracts to align with one of five supporting topics: culture and legacies; education and learning; emerging technologies and innovation; intelligence and collaboration; sustainable workforce. More information on the supporting topics for 2023 can be found here: https://www.afacconference.com.au/call-for-abstracts-2023(external link)

Please do not submit your abstract via this website; the information is for guidance only.

Abstracts should be no more than 200 words in length; you can submit multiple abstracts for consideration.  If you’d like help with drafting your abstract, get in touch with Te Ao Mārama (research@fireandemergency.nz) and they will work with you to shape it into the AFAC format.

All final abstracts need to be submitted by 24 January 2023. Please email them to AFAC.Conference@fireandemergency.nz.

The approved abstracts will be submitted to the AFAC committee by Te Ao Mārama, and successful candidates notified of the outcome in late April.
