Fire and Emergency is proud to celebrate the successful launch of the Lead Leaders Programme. This programme is designed for those who lead other people leaders and/or those whose roles have a broad impact across the organisation. This is the first initiative of its kind specifically focused on developing leaders at this level.

The programme focuses on translating strategy into action while building an inclusive, safe, and thriving culture. It takes place over six months combining a mixture of online and face-to-face workshops and explores a range of leadership topics.

An important focus for the cohort is how they can apply their learnings to their work, along with helping build the capability of other leaders around them.

The first cohort gathered in person over two days in March and included people from various ranks and roles from across the country, including District Managers and Group Managers. These leaders are committed to continuing their leadership development through learning from their experiences, discussing real life challenges and experimenting with a new tools and ideas.

The response to the first workshop has been overwhelmingly positive.

Check out the video to hear some cohort members reflect on the first workshop:

A couple of key takeaways for the cohort, which everyone in leadership roles may benefit from considering:

  • You can shift from ‘management mode’ to ‘leadership mode’ by taking time to lift your head out of the daily grind and focus on vision, strategy, and wellbeing.
  • You can embrace self-reflection by regularly asking yourself: “what impact am I having today?” and “what impact do I want to have?”

The Leadership Development team are looking forward to welcoming the cohort back to the next face-to-face workshop in May to hear how they have been applying what they have learnt so far.
