As a Crown Entity, Fire and Emergency is subject to the Public Records Act 2005, which states that all public offices must be independently audited every five to ten years.

So next week, from 24-27 May, a team of auditors from KPMG will visit NHQ to complete an audit of Fire and Emergency New Zealand’s information and records management practices on behalf of Archives New Zealand. It will be our first audit as Fire and Emergency New Zealand.

The audit will give us a benchmark about the current state of our information management environment and show us where we can make improvements. It will help us make sure Fire and Emergency information is trusted, understandable, accessible and protected, and well-managed throughout its lifecycle.

We’ll receive a report that will outline key findings from the audit and include a prioritised list of recommendations. From that we’ll develop an action plan and let you know how you can help and support the steps to improving our information and records management at Fire and Emergency.
