In August 2021, AFAC will be hosting "AFAC21 – Balancing impact and expectations." A call for abstracts has been announced and we invite any interested Fire and Emergency New Zealand people to submit an abstract for consideration.

AFAC21 will focus on how we manage the consequences of major events and meet the expectations of the community and government. The programme will explore how the sector can continue to learn and find opportunities to deliver with new and innovative approaches.

The four topics that AFAC21 will focus on are:

  • New approaches
  • Supporting ourselves and others
  • Embedding research into practice
  • Communities

More information about each of the above topics can be found on the AFAC21 website(external link).

All Fire and Emergency abstract submissions will be considered by a panel in early February, with a shortlist submitted to AFAC for its final decision. Abstracts must be submitted by the member agency (i.e. Fire and Emergency). Abstracts submitted outside of this process by individuals may not be supported by the organisation.

If you wish to submit an abstract for consideration, send your submission to communications@fireandemergency.nz no later than 15 December 2020.

Please ensure you include:

  • Which category your abstract relates to
  • Endorsement from your Area Manager/Tier 3 Manager to attend AFAC21 (if you are selected to speak).

For more information, check out the AFAC21 Conference site: https://www.afacconference.com.au/(external link)

Travel for AFAC21 will be COVID-19 dependent.
