Sunday marked the end of the first week for the deployment team in Canada. It’s been full on and fast with little room to catch one’s breath since both teams landed in their respectful areas. It’s definitely a learn-as-you-go job and yes, we’re stuffed, but each day that we head out our confidence builds.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand signed a charter with the NZ Forest Owners Association (NZFOA) and NZ Farm Forestry Association (NZFFA) on Tuesday 15 August, ensuring clarity throughout the integration period as Fire and Emergency moves to become a fully unified, national organisation.
After two days of rest and acclimatisation to local time, the 80 New Zealanders deployed to help fight wildfires in British Columbia were flown by a Royal Canadian Air Force C-130 Hercules today to the city of Prince George.
