Each year, Fire and Emergency supports a number of our people to speak at, and attend, AFAC’s conference in Australia. The annual conference is a key professional event for our sector, and attendees gain insights and contacts that are valuable for their roles and projects.

The next Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC) conference will be held in Adelaide between 23 and 26 August 2022.

The theme for next year’s conference is “Connecting communities. Creating resilience”.

Abstract submissions now closed

Submission of abstracts have now been taken and this part of the process has closed.

The submissions of the posters and presentations were of a very high level, showcasing the high-quality and innovative thinking from across Fire and Emergency New Zealand.

ELT will select a shortlist of abstracts that Te Ao Mārama will submit to the AFAC conference committee. All shortlisted authors will be notified in early February.

The shortlist will be submitted by 14 February, and successful candidates notified of the outcome in early April.

Nomination process

There is always a lot of interest in attending AFAC conferences; numbers are limited so there is a selection process. Information about the nomination process will be shared closer to the conference.
