Late last month I released the Independent Review into our workplace policies, practices and procedures to address bullying and harassment. You heard me say that we are committed to building a workplace where everyone feels respected and included, regardless of gender, ethnicity, role or thinking.

I was, and still am, clear that how we respond and change the culture within our organisation is up to all of us. Work is underway to implement the recommendations from the report. I also want to hear your ideas about what we can do to build a culture that’s more respectful and inclusive via Beacon, our online ideas platform.

I recorded this short video message at Wellington City Station to tell you more:

Here’s a summary of my video message:

I want to talk to you about the Coral Shaw Review and what we’re doing to move forward. The review wasn’t about finding what the problems were, but to point us in the direction of how to resolve these issues and create an organisation that is supportive of our people.

This month we need to start looking at what our solutions are and how we’re going to put them into place to make us the organisation we want to be.

You’ve heard from me, in terms of what we need to do as an organisation. Now I’d like to hear from you, about what’s going to be practical in your areas, stations and parts of the country.

To gain your views, we’re using Beacon, which hopefully you’re already familiar with.  Please talk with your crew and decide how you want to respond – as an individual or as a brigade.

The important thing is that we get your ideas. I’m looking forward to hearing your views, as you know what will work in your location – so please contribute.
